Classroom Disruption

Students who behave in the classroom in such a way that the educational experiences of other students and/or the instructor’s course objectives are disrupted are subject to disciplinary action, including but not limited to possible exclusion from a course. Such behavior impedes students’ ability to learn or an instructor’s ability to teach. Disruptive behavior may include, but is not limited to: non-approved use of electronic devices (including but not limited to cellular telephones); cursing or shouting at others in such a way as to be disruptive to the instructional process within the classroom; persistently speaking without being recognized or interrupting other speakers; behavior that unnecessarily disturbs the class from the subject matter or discussion; or in extreme cases, physical threats, harassing behavior or personal insults. Faculty members will submit an incident report through the Provost’s office for review and final determination of whether to bring student conduct charges.
