POL 330 Classical/Modern Political Thought
This course offers a broad introduction to political theory that explores the development of political ideas from ancient Greece through to modern political thought. It examines the works of key figures such as Socrates, Plato, Aristotle, Machiavelli, Locke, Rousseau, Kant, Marx, Wiredu, Avicenna, Wollstonecraft, and de Beauvoir. Emphasis is placed on the historical development of political ideas and their relevance to contemporary political issues in both Western and non-Western contexts. Through active reading, writing assignments, quizzes, interactive discussions, and activities students will connect political thought to develop critical and analytical thinking skills regarding historical and modern social, economic, and political concerns.
