EDU 318 Teaching Secondary School Mathematics

Covers methods of teaching algebra, geometry, a statistic, computing, applied mathematics and unified mathematics. Considers recent curriculum changes to prepare students for teaching in the secondary schools. Topics include the use of models and manipulatives, the role of computers and computer simulations, diagnosis and remediation, how to find real applications, general classroom organization and textbook selection criteria. Includes a required field experience in a public-school classroom. Does not carry credit towards a major in mathematics. Prerequisites: EDU,102 and 201, MAT 210, a college-level course in computer programming or permission of the instructor.
