COM 395 Health Communication
This advanced course introduces students to significant concepts and issues in communication as it relates to health professionals and health outcomes. Students will examine health communication theory, research, and practice on the delivery of care and promotion of health. Topics include social constructions of health and illness, provider-patient interactions, and public health campaigns. The course examines how communication influences health behavior, health outcomes, and delivery of healthcare services across contexts, including relationships, organizations, and the public media and new technologies. It is useful for students interested in the healthcare and public health professions, media and marketing, as well as health advocates and consumers.
