CHI 240 The Story of Chinese Martial Arts,Fiction
From Bruce Lee to Shang-Chi, kung fu stories have been international pop culture dynamite for well over fifty years now, but where does the genre come from and where is it going? This course will explore the history of Chinese martial arts narrative from its origins in traditional Chinese literature and stage performance, through its rise in Hong Kong cinema, to its explosion in the multimedia landscape of the 21st century. All works will be made available in English translation - no prior knowledge of China or Chinese is necessary.
