AAS 295 African American Rhetoric

This course surveys the contributions of African American orators such as Martin Luther King Jr., Malcolm X, Barbara Jordan, Fannie Lou Hamer, Tupac Shakur, and Muhammad Ali to American public culture. The course will study African American rhetoric as manifested in speeches, essays, and other rhetorical artifacts. Emphasis will be on Afrocentric and traditional approaches to rhetorical theory and criticism.
