Educational Studies (B.A.)
The Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Educational Studies is designed for students who wish to explore the field of education without pursuing teacher licensure. This program provides a strong foundation in the theory and practice of teaching and learning, human development, global and intercultural awareness, and the social contexts of education. Students examine how education shapes individuals, communities, and society, gaining skills that prepare them to work in a variety of education-related settings.
Through coursework emphasizing critical thinking, communication, and problem solving, students engage in the study of educational philosophies, learning theories, and contemporary issues in schooling. The program encourages students to connect theory to practice through field experiences, research projects, and community engagement opportunities.
A major in Educational Studies is offered to those students who meet all requirements for elementary or early childhood education except for student teaching (
EDU 430 or
EDU 410) and its associated seminar (
EDU 415). The Educational Studies major does not carry a recommendation for teacher certification and is not approved by the South Carolina Department of Education.
